A trip down Christmas Tree Lane, either walking or bundled up in the car, is an essential holiday outing for countless Fresnans.  This colorful holiday display is a precious gift to the people of Fresno from the residents of Old Fig Garden, a marvelous neighborhood with homes dating from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s.  Magnificent trees have grown for decades and provide a cool, green shelter from warm summer afternoons, while residents of the area display beautiful gardens and grounds.  Old Fig Garden is an upscale neighborhood where newcomers are usually surprised by the affordability and size of the homes and lots. The neighborhood also borders Fig Garden Village, a beautiful open-air shopping center built in 1955.

The northeast area of Fresno has experienced significant development, and contains a regional shipping center, River Park, and major medical facilities including Kaiser Permanente Medical Center and Saint Agnes Hospital.  The area offers numerous apartments, homes, and businesses, and the jewel of the area, Woodward Park, a 235-acre reserve featuring the Shin Zen Japanese Garden, the Lewis S. Eaton Nature Trail, and lakes, streams, playgrounds, and picnic areas.

Woodward Lake is a planned development of 1157 homes built around a 54-acre man made lake, giving residents the enviable task of carving out time to fish, row, or sail.  One of Fresno's newer areas, Woodward Park homes are generally newer and sit on much larger lots than are available in other parts of the city.
